Invasion TCG Organised Play Changes Announced

In response to the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, a number of changes have been made to Invasion TCG's Organised Play Program.

In this week's blog post, Dave talks through the changes that have been announced, as well as how they impact local tournaments and the 2020 World Championships.

Local Events and Communities

As countries around the globe announced lockdowns and social distancing measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, local game stores closed their doors and postponed events.

Local game stores give players a chance to play the game, trade cards, and have fun - win or lose. The stores are a massive part of the Invasion TCG community and we're working behind the scenes to deliver a package of support for them.

In the meantime, all official Invasion TCG events that were scheduled to take place in stores have been postponed until further notice. This means that players aren't able to earn World Championship qualifying points or be given entry promo cards.

The safety of our community comes before anything - and it always will. While the situation is a rapidly evolving one that sometimes varies from location to location, we don't feel comfortable running events as things stand.

2020 World Championships

2020 was set to see some of the best players from around the world come together to battle it out for the World Championship title. However, with local events postponed and players unable to earn qualifying points, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the event.

We are now working towards holding the inaugural World Championships in August 2021 in the city of Birmingham, England. More information on the date and the venue will be announced in the near future.

Qualification for the 2021 event will still be through the World Ranking Leaderboard, though the number of points required for qualification will be amended depending on when the Organised Play Program is back up and running.

Qualifying points that have been earned by players trying to qualify for the 2020 World Championships will be rolled over to qualification for the 2021 event.

Organized Play and Set Releases

Organized Play seasons previously ran from October 1st until September 1st each year, with the World Championships taking place in mid-September. The season dates have now been changed so that they run from September 1st until August 1st each year with the World Championships being held in mid or late August.

Set releases will also now happen in August each year. The final day of the World Championship event will see qualified players taking part in a special pre-release event before anyone else in the world is able to.

However, the release of the second Invasion TCG set - Secrets Revealed - won't be pushed all the way back until the World Championships. Instead, the set will be released in January 2021 with local game stores holding pre-release events in December 2020. More information on the set will be announced in the near future.
